Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to attend B&H’s BILD Expo at the Javits Center in New York City.
(I know… featuring an event outside the Mid-Atlantic for the site’s second piece? Well, there’s a reason for it.)
There’s a handful of large-scale photography conventions in the United States. The most well-known is WPPI in Las Vegas annually. And then BILD was in NYC — and it was free to attend! It’s tough to say no when it’s fewer than 4 hours away via Amtrak’s Northeast Regional.
There was the opportunity to sit in on talks and lessons, visit the Expo floor — a who’s who in photography equipment from Canon and Nikon to Hoya and Blackmagic Design, and even take part in some test scenes with vivid lighting including a mock-up subway train and even a disco scene with 1970s music.

There were also photo walks available from plenty of professional photographers that went from the Javits Center over to Vessel at Hudson Yards.

Finally, it was just a chance to explore a new part of NYC that I’ve not really stayed around on previous trips. I think one of my favorite parts was the view from the rooftop park at Pier 57. The High Line was cool as well, but it was closed between west 23-30th streets.

All photos were taken on a Nikon Z6II with a Nikkor Z 24-70 f/4 S lens.
